Hero's Homecoming: STL Photo of the Week
Posted on September 13, 2019 in
September 11 of every year is already a day of
remembrance for the victims, survivors, and heroes of the tragic attack on our
country. This year, St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) and United
Airlines were honored to welcome home 94 year old Tom Lacey, a World War II
veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Lacey was coming home from a
commemorative 75th anniversary tour of Brussels and other areas he fought in
while serving in the United States Army. Lacey later attended the University of
Purdue, earning a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, and subsequently worked
for McDonnell Douglas for 42 years. STL was honored to provide a water cannon
salute for Lacey as his plane taxied to the gate. After the celebration at the
gate, where he was met by some of his 12 children, Lacey headed to the USO in
Terminal 1, where he was greeted by current and former members of the United
States Armed Forces.
