Media Guide

STL Public Information Office

St. Louis Lambert International Airport is dedicated to work with media outlets to assist in their efforts to report on the airport and its activities. The Airport respectfully requests that all media planning to produce news coverage on airport property contact the Public Information Manager or others in the Public Relations Office.

Media should try to call at least 30 minutes in advance for non-emergency news coverage when planning to visit the airport for news gathering purposes. The Public Information group will notify the appropriate personnel about your arrival and nature of coverage. This communication and approved clearance will help media better perform their tasks or jobs uninterrupted.

The Public Relations offices are located within St. Louis Airport Authority Administrative Office, Lower Level of Terminal 1 near the A Concourse Checkpoint.

For general inquiries, contact the Public relations Department personnel directly or connect through the   Airport Administration at (314) 426-8000.

All media inquiries made to any other department of the St. Louis Airport Authority will be forwarded to the Public Information Office for response.

Media Parking

Terminal 1: The St. Louis Airport Authority will offer complimentary parking for official media business on airport property during regular business hours. Parking for media vehicles is available in the Terminal 1 Garage. Contact the Public Information group for clearance to receive the complimentary parking pass. If space is available, “Live” ENG trucks may be permitted to park on the upper level drive (Departing/Ticketing Level) of Terminal 1 near Entry Door 6.

Terminal 2: Parking for “Live” ENG trucks is also available at Terminal 2 Departures Drive on a case by case basis. Contact airport public relations to receive clearance

Please contact the Public Relations Office if space for a satellite truck or other news vehicles are required.

Access

The media is allowed in all public areas in Lambert Terminals 1 and 2.  Media should contact the Public Relations Office for any type of coverage on Lambert property.

Shops, restaurants, airline gate areas and various other operations or offices are not considered part of the public areas, and may be leased by other companies. The media must obtain permission for access and/or be escorted to these areas to gather information, photograph, videotape or record sound.

The media is not allowed into restricted or secured areas of the airport, unless escorted by a member of the Public Relations Office or other assigned St. Louis Airport Authority staff. If access is granted, an airport representative will be required to escort media during the entire time media is within a secured area. A government photo identification required is required to enter any secured area under escort. Restricted areas include all aircraft operating areas (taxiways, runways) concourses and airline gate areas beyond the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints. Media members who gain unauthorized access to secured areas are subject to arrest and prosecution.

Terminal 1 Audio/Visual Media Hubs

The Airport has a built in media network for broadcast media outlets to do live coverage in Terminal 1. An input hub for audio/video cables is located just west of Entry/Exit 6 on Departures Drive adjacent to the area the airport has designated for “live” ENG parking. The exterior media hub is connected to media hubs inside Terminal 1 to allow for broadcast media outlets to do live shots in three designated areas.

T1 Interior Media Hub Locations:

1. Ticketing Level- Ticketing Lounge. Contained on the south end of the waterfall feature wall closest to Entry 4.

2. Lower Level, right of stage area across from Starbucks.

3. Bag Claim, around the corner from USO near Exit 17.

As with any media coverage on airport property, please notify the public relations office in advance before using the media hubs. Media outlets are responsible for providing their own equipment, cabling and connections to and from the airports media hubs.

Emergency Procedures

In the event of an aircraft emergency, St. Louis Lambert International Airport will make every effort to provide the media with information as soon as it becomes available.

The Public Relations team will notify media where to meet for latest updates. During an airport emergency, the Airport will only be able to update the media on airport related operations. The airlines will be responsible for informing the media about the status of their passengers, their planes or their flight operations. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are federal agencies that may also be a source of information during and after an airport incident. News media pilots of helicopters and other aircraft should observe standard flight regulations. Additional temporary flight restrictions may be enacted during an emergency at the airport.

Filming/Photography

St. Louis Lambert International Airport welcomes the opportunity to provide facilities and technical assistance for commercial television productions, commercial video, and commercial still photography. All requests to film for commercial purposes must be first approved. A written request for filming/photography must be submitted a minimum of two weeks in advance of requested film dates. Some reviews and approvals may take longer than two weeks.  Click here for film/photography regulations, rates and application. {link to PDF—provide later date}
