Deicing for Departure: STL Photo of the Week

Posted on February 01, 2019 in

With the extreme temperatures and winter weather experienced throughout the Midwest this week, aircraft deicing and anti-icing procedures were a common sight at St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL). Deicing and anti-icing procedures enhance the safety and improve the performance of the aircraft during departure and throughout the flight. Deicing and anti-icing procedures occur at different locations throughout the airfield, depending on which concourse the airline operates out of. Because of our commitment to continuously improving our environmental performance, deicing or anti-icing always occurs south of what is known as the scupper drain line. This allows the deicing and anti-icing fluids to be captured in a special retention system and prohibits them from entering the water stream.
