Southwest Adds Daily Flights from STL to Multiple Destinations for Summer 2019

Southwest Airlines released its summer 2019 flight schedule for St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) which includes major flight frequency upgrades for several key markets and the return of non-stop service to Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ).
Starting June 9, Southwest is fortifying its M-F schedule compared to its spring schedule ending June 8. Highlights include an added daily flight to several cities from STL including Nashville (BNA)- from 3 to 4 daily, Boston (BOS)- from 3 to 5 daily, Cleveland (CLE)- from 2 to 3 daily, Denver (DEN)- from 5 to 6 daily, and Detroit (DTW)- from 2 to 3 daily. Montego Bay service was added this spring in March and continuing through early April. That service will return with a weekly Saturday flight beginning on June 9th. Southwest’s schedule runs through August 5, 2019 and includes adjustments to its weekend flights frequencies as well.
The cumulative impact of the new Southwest schedule means 22 new departures per week from STL versus its spring 2019 schedule ending June 8. It’s an increase of 38 departures per week when compared to their summer schedule one year ago.
“The additional non-stop flights to multiple destinations means there is approximately 3,000 additional seats out of STL,” said STL Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. “This is significant because Southwest continues to grow its connecting passenger activity through St. Louis which gives our region even more options on where and when to fly.”
Beginning June 9, Southwest will operate 122 weekday departures, 105 Saturday departures, and 127 Sunday departures, with 49 destinations served overall. To meet the demand for its schedule and passenger growth, Southwest has twice expanded its gate capacity in recent years in Terminal 2. Most recently, gates E34, E36 and E38 opened in 2017. The airlines began operating gate E40 this fall.
STL’s airlines operate on average more than 250 daily departures to over 70 non-stop destinations. The Airport has seen a six percent growth in total passenger activity through the first nine months of 2018 serving more than 11 million passengers in that time.
