The St. Louis chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) awarded St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) with its Distinguished Building Award for the iconic design of Terminal 1 at the 2018 AIA St. Louis Design Awards ceremony. Originally opening in 1956, Terminal 1 set a new design standard for modern airline terminals, including John F. Kennedy International Airport and Dulles International Airport. “Even through various additions, modifications and renovations over the years, the strength of the original design endures and remains a symbol of St. Louis, as well as an iconic modern design which celebrates aviation travel,” according to AIA St. Louis. “We applaud the airport administration for their stewardship of this beloved signature building.” At STL, we’re proud to be keepers of this unique piece of aviation history.
