New Badging and Fingerprinting Office Hours (effective September 10, 2018)

The Badging and Fingerprinting Office will open 30 minutes later than current hours and stay open 30 minutes later at the end of the day for increased customer convenience. New office hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00-4:30 p.m. (customer line ends at 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and sometimes earlier on heavy volume days). There are no badge renewals on Tuesdays due to SIDA Classes taught by our office staff members. 

SIDA Class Details
Tuesday SIDA Class check-in for students that require this training for requested badge color is modified effective September 11, 2018:

Morning SIDA Class check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. (not 7:30 a.m.)  SIDA Class is held 8:30-11:30 a.m.  Afternoon SIDA Class check-in begins at 12:00 p.m.  SIDA Class is held 12:30-3:30 p.m. The Badging and Fingerprinting Office does not close from 12:00-1:00 p.m. for lunch on Tuesdays so you may come check-in for your SIDA Class or replace damaged or lost badges.

Advance reservations in SIDA Class must be made.  Please do not show up at the Badging Office without your SIDA Class reservation because each class is limited to 30 students. Call the Badging Office at (314)426-8095 to make your reservation after your badge approval has been received by your employer or sponsoring Authorized Signatory.

Bring all these items when you come to check in for your SIDA Class:

* your two or more valid government-issued identification documents,
* black or blue pen to take class notes and for the test,
* non-alcoholic beverage if you would like one to drink during class,
* snack for the break outside of the classroom,
* payment for your badge ($45 cash if applicable) and
* jacket or sweater because the classroom is usually very cold and we cannot change the thermostat

Q. Do I need a reservation for fingerprinting or to pickup my badge?
A. Unlike many other airports you do not need a reservation at STL.

Q. How long does it take to complete the badging process at STL?
A. Badge applicants must complete the entire badging process within 30 calendar days of their badge approval per federal regulations.  There are no exceptions to this policy.

The Badging Office usually receives fingerprint results from the FBI and threat assessment results from TSA in 7-14 business days.  These results are reviewed and adjudicated, then your employer and/or sponsoring Authorized Signatory are notified via email or by letter as to your approval status.  You may also call the Badging and Fingerprinting Office at (314)426-8095 to check on your own badge approval status.

Q. What happens if I do not complete the badging process within 30 calendar days of my badge approval?
A. You will have to restart the entire badging process at your or your employer or your sponsor's expense:
*bring new completed paperwork,
*$40 cash or company check payable to "City of St. Louis Treasurer" (if your badge type requires fingerprinting),
*your two or more government-issued identification documents,
*do new fingerprints and new threat assessment and wait for badge approval... again which may take 1-2 weeks of your time.

Training classes may also need to be retaken, if applicable for the requested badge type.

Q. What are your office hours? What government-issued identification is permitted for use at the STL Badging and Fingerprinting Office?
A. Please print the STL Badging Office Hours and List of Acceptable ID flyers for yourself, your new or renewing badge applicants, your contractors or vendors and post these in your break rooms and on information boards at your office or company.

You are encouraged to give a copy of the List of Acceptable IDs to anyone who needs to come to the Badging Office so they can take responsibility for checking that they bring us the correct, non-expired, valid ID's.

Arriving as close to the office opening times of 7:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. is always your best option for completing your badging business quickly. Line up in the hallway outside of our office. Do not sit in the hallway chairs yet. We will make an announcement over the loudspeaker of "Next customer in line". We process each customer individually at our office counter so that your personal information is protected.

Q. How do I renew my badge at STL?
A. Badge renewal time frame begins the first day of the month in which your badge expires. For example, if your badge expires 12/31/2018, you can start renewing it on 12/1/2018. Renewing your badge during the first week of the month it expires is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED because our customer lines vary moment to moment. Lines are always longer as the end of each month approaches, just like at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

We must cut off the line of customers early when the line is extremely long so please come to the Badging Office early in the month and early in the day so your wait will probably be shorter.

Please do not procrastinate when renewing your badge! Bring your patience when you come to the STL Badging Office because you may wait for 20 minutes or more than one hour if the customer line is very long.

Q. What paperwork and items do I need to bring to the Badging Office to renew my badge or begin a brand new applicant badging process?
A. Contact your employer and sponsoring Authorized Signer to complete Page 3 of the Badge Application. Your Page 3 form must be dated by your Authorized Signer and it is only valid for 30 calendar days. The Authorized Signer's signature must be original on the Page 3 form and that form can only be completed in black or blue ink. We do not accept facsimiles or PDF's via email of the Page 3 form.

Please complete Page 1 and Page 2 of the Badge Application in black or blue ink. Bring your properly completed Badge Application (Pages 1, 2 and 3) plus your two or more valid government-issued identification documents and your expiring badge to the Badging and Fingerprint Office during our normal business hours.

No badge renewals on Tuesdays due to SIDA Classes we teach. The Badging and Fingerprint Office is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and government holidays.

Q. I no longer need my STL badge? Is it ok to keep it as a memento of my work at STL? Can I throw it in the trash or shred it?

A. No, you may not keep your STL badge when you are done working at STL, if you are terminated by your employer or if your company has completed their contract here. Do not give your badge to another person, throw it away or shred it, even if you are retiring or not coming back to ever work at STL again.

The badge is Airport property as indicated on the back of your badge and it must be returned to the Badging Office. Mail it to our office in an envelope with a note as to why your badge is no longer needed.

Q. I applied for a badge at STL in the past. My previous badge was not returned to the Badging and Fingerprinting Office by my previous employer or by me. Now I need to reapply for a badge because I have a different job. What do I do?

A. If more than 30 calendar days have passed between your previous badge's expiration date or its return to our office, you will restart the entire badging process. See explanation above for how to apply and what to bring with you.

If your previous badge was not returned to our office, you must either bring it with you to return or you must pay the penalty fee associated with a Lost or Not Accounted badge. Badge holders are only permitted 3 Lost badges at STL and the penalty fees are steep (see fee list below).

If your previous badge was returned to our office, we will have a record of that in our system. You will still need to bring the badge application paperwork, correct IDs and fingerprint payment of $40 (if your requested badge type requires yo to be fingerprinted).

Fingerprint and Badging Fees

Dear Airport Stakeholders,

The amount St. Louis Lambert International Airport charges for airport-issued identification badges has remained fixed since 2010. Security Operations recently conducted a badge cost survey that included Category X and Category 1 airports. It has been determined that on July 1, 2018 the following minimal changes will go into effect: Airport Identification Badges

Second Lost Badge         $100.00
Third Lost Badge            $175.00

Airport Submitting Office Number (SON)           $40.00 (no change)

Fingerprint cards/postal cards                          $25.00

Air carriers that request fingerprinting under their own SONs are strongly encouraged to participate in the FBI Rap Back program to help mitigate Insider Threat. Enrollment will streamline the badging process by exempting employees from biennial fingerprint-based criminal history record checks (CHRCs) and will eliminate the $25.00 processing fee. Lambert enrolled in FBI Rap Back in June 2017.

If your employees are responsible for paying these costs themselves, please inform them of the changes prior to sending them to the Badging Office.

Payment Methods for Fingerprint and Badging Fees

Cash or company check payable to "City of St. Louis Treasurer" are the only acceptable payment methods for fingerprint and new, renewal or lost badge fees. The Airport's Finance and Accounting Office handles all payments. Come to the Badging Office first so we can give you the proper billing paperwork. Unacceptable payment methods:  personal checks, money orders or any form of credit or debit cards.

Terminal 1, Yellow Level of parking garage or the baggage carousel level. Our office is next to Exit 18 (Police Department). This is at the far west end of Arriving Flights Drive.

How do I get to the Security Operations Unit, Badging and Fingerprinting Office?

There are many options for coming to our office in Terminal 1 at STL.

You can ride the MetroLink light rail train or MetroBus to Terminal 1 at STL. Here's a link to their information, ticketing information and schedule:

You can ride your bicycle, scooter or motorcycle to STL. Bicycle parking is available at Terminal 1 on the Arriving Flights Drive level. Scooter and motorcycle parking is available in Lot A next to Terminal 1. Please lock your bike, scooter or motorcycle!

Vehicle parking is not free at STL so please be prepared to pay $5 for 0-2 hours in the Main Terminal Parking Garage operated by Super Park or at one of the off-site lots and take a shuttle to the Main Terminal. Parking facilities only accept cash, credit cards or debit cards for parking payments; no personal or company checks or money orders. 

Free transportation alternative:  have someone drop you off at Terminal 1, Exit 18 on Arriving Flights Drive, then they can drive over to the Cell Phone Lot west of the Terminal 1 and wait for you until you call to say you have completed your badging business.

Absolutely no vehicles are permitted to be left unattended on Arriving Flights Drive, Departing Flights Drive or any other roadway at STL!  Do not park outside Exit 18 and leave your vehicle or leave someone in your vehicle when you come to the Badging Office.  Your vehicle will be towed and impounded!
